ABC has lately been concentrating on celebrating Albion’s history by honoring the legacy of Charles W. Howard, the founder of the world’s first Santa Claus School. Mr. Howard was the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Santa from 1948-1965. ABC is creating new, and upgrading older, area signage to honor Charles Howard’s significance to our community.

We also formally applied to US Postal Service  Stamp Advisory Committee for issuance of Charles Howard Christmas Stamps.

Ultimately, ABC’s co-directors, Gary Derwick, Joe Gehl and Gary Kent, working with several dedicated community members, believe honoring this humble visionary would be best accomplished by erecting a statue and “Santa House” dedicated to his memory. We are presently involved in seeking to raise $80,000-100,000 for these purposes. ABC has pledged up to $10,000 to this end and is spending over $5,000 to launch the project.
